In an effort to let our friends (that’s you) get to know our Team Russell Athletes a little better, we’ve done some spotlight interviews that give a little peak into their lives, personalities and to help you understand why we think they’re so special.
We sat down with Washington Redskins wide receiver Pierre Garcon to find out some things most people might not know about him as well as talk about his relationship with Russell Athletic and why he chose to be a part of Team Russell Athletic.
When he’s not on the gridiron, catching passes for touchdowns, including his favorite sports moment, catching a touchdown in the SuperBowl, Garcon likes to travel and spend time with his family. If he weren’t playing professional football, you’d likely see him on a soccer field, terrorizing defenders with his speed and athleticism, plying a trade he excelled at as a youth and still enjoys today.
After 4 very successful seasons with the Indianapolis Colts, Garcon signed with the Redskins in 2012, and while injuries plagued much of his first season in our nation’s capital, it didn’t stop him from making an impact on the community. When he was in negotiations to join Russell Athletic, one of the things he wanted to do was to give new uniforms ($50,000 in gear) to three local high schools that competed in a unique contest that required the schools to submit reasons why they should receive new uniforms. The result was something Garcon will remember forever.
“At the end of the day, it worked out pretty well,” Garcon said. “We’ll sit back and remember this 10 years from now or whatever and say, ‘Hey, remember the day we gave out jerseys to Thomas Jefferson and Springbrook and Theodore Roosevelt High School?’ It’s not work. It’s like collecting memories.”
Its moments and ideas like this that make all of us at Russell Athletic proud to have someone like Garcon be a part of our family. He exemplifies the word role model on and off the field and we’re glad he’s on our team.
