In an effort to let our friends (that’s you) get to know our Team Russell Athletes a little better, we’ve done some spotlight interviews that give a little peak behind the curtain to reveal the personalities behind the uniforms and to show why we think they’re so special.
We took some time to get to know former Texas Longhorn and current San Francisco 49er, Colt McCoy. Everyone knows about his Walter Camp award, being Heisman Trophy runner-up in 2008 and his numerous records set while playing for Texas. They also know about his time in Cleveland and how he’s now vying his trade in San Fran, but we wanted to know a little more about the eldest of three brothers and author of “Growing up Colt,” a book he co-wrote with his father.
When talking about his father, you can see that he is and has been an integral part, along with his grandfather in making him the man he is today. He sites both of them as his heroes and for being responsible for making him the type of person Russell Athletics is proud to call one of their own.
His drive and determination have led him to be a leader, no matter where he is and his passion for the sport, along with the support of his family has driven him throughout his athletic career. When asked about his relationship with Russell Athletic, he was quick to point out similar qualities in the brand that drove his decision to become a part of our team:
“…they are loyal, trustworthy and very innovative with their products. I’ve enjoyed every minute of having my name associated with the Russell Athletic Brand,” McCoy said.
A big fan of hunting, fishing and golfing when he’s not on the football field, McCoy also proud of his ability to balance on a Swiss ball, sighting it as one of his quirky things people may not know about him.
When asked about what advice he would give young athletes about transitioning from high school to college to professional football, McCoy had this to say:
“My advice is to never get comfortable. There are new challenges everyday in life. Keep focused and keep working!”
We couldn’t agree more.
We hope you’ve enjoyed our athlete spotlight with Colt McCoy. Check back soon for more interviews with some of our favorite Team Russell Athletes.
