It’s Veterans Day. So at Russell Athletic, we’d like to take a moment to honor all of the men and women who have served in the U.S. armed services. You guys exemplify what it means to work as a team and to give of yourself for the common good. Star athletes may get all the glory, but we know it’s those of you who have proudly worn American military uniforms that are the true heroes.
That’s why we think it’s cool that the Star Spangled Banner plays before almost any American sporting event. These days, it’s one of the few public displays of patriotism most of us get to participate in. It’s also a chance to forget about our individual team loyalties for a moment, and remember that first and foremost, we all root for team USA.
The playing of the National Anthem before sporting events was first established as a tradition during World War II, a time when Americans were very aware of how important it was to work together. It started with Major League Baseball, and it quickly spread to other professional and amateur sports.
Today, the patriotic ceremony opens almost every American athletic event big enough to draw a crowd, from the high-school level on up. Which is exactly as it should be. Because no matter what team colors we choose to wear on our chests, as Americans, we only cover our hearts for the red, white and blue.
It’s no coincidence that red, white and blue are also the colors of the Russell Athletic brand logo. We’re an American athletic clothing brand, and we’re proud of it. Especially on Veterans Day. So, we salute all of you who have ever worn an American military uniform and served our country with pride and honor. We’re glad you’re on our team. Happy Veteran’s day. Together we R.
