1949 – Jackie Robinson wins the National League MVP
1951 – Former Cubs 1st baseman Chuck Connors (Star of The Rifleman TV series) becomes the 1st player to oppose the major league draft

1970 – Joe Frazier knocks out Bob Foster in two rounds to win the heavyweight boxing title.
1982 – Boxer Duk Koo Kim dies from injuries sustained during a 14-round match against Ray Mancini in Las Vegas.
1975 – Calvin Murphy’s 58 game NBA free throw steak ends.
1991 – Auburn men’s basketball gets slapped with a one-year post season suspension by the NCAA for recruiting violations.
1997 – Mavericks’ AC Green plays his 906th consecutive games, tying the record held by Randy Smith.
1980 – Honduras & El Salvador sign a peace treaty, 11 years after the short but infamous “soccer war.”
1984 – Blue Bombers defeated the Hamilton Tiger-Cats to win the Grey Cup, Canadian Football League’s highest honor
1990 – New York Giants defeat the Detroit Lions 20-0 and expand their record to 10-0 for the season.
1984 –The New Jersey Devils shutout New York Rangers 6-0
1990 – US beats Europe in first ever Solheim Cup golf tournament.
